Happy December everyone! December is quite a special month for me (my birthday is coming up next week!) and a month which is all about celebrations and gathering with loved ones. It is also an insanely busy month for anyone’s social calendar with Christmas parties and New Year’s Eve countdowns to plan and attend. For all of us girls (and boys!) who love to dress up, this is THE month to look good and impress. As such a fun filled month, I wanted to share some of my tips how to dress for this party season. So here it goes!
Tip 1: Do shop your entire outfit in one place. Whenever I have multiple events in my diary with so little time (and patience!) to organise my looks, I tend to do all my shopping in one shop. Labels always have their own collection which tends to have a cohesive message. This means selecting a head to toe outfit is easier to do if you stick to one label. My recommendation for this party season is Ted Baker. Ted has an incredible after-dark collection of dresses, accessories, shoes and jewellery all centred around the romantic and quite adult Midnight Hour theme. I definitely found popping into Ted Baker as my one stop shop for all things evening wear.
Tip 2: Do stick to just one or two colours. I say Christmas is definitely the season for wearing colours to reflect our very merry mood. However, we are all aware of the Christmas jumper disasters and the real danger of going colour blind from seeing multi-coloured, puffy ball, sequence bonanza outfits during this season. To avoid being one of these Christmas fashion victims, I always stick to just one or two amazing colour combinations or wear one statement piece which incorporates an incredible print design. But instead of a LBD, why not stand out from the crown in some incredible colours.
Tip 3: Do try different textures. My current style obsession is multi textured looks. Garments should be worn to make a personal statement, but also should make you feel a million dollars. I love touching pieces before I decide to buy them so that I can feel what it would be like on. Two of my favourite fabric obsessions at the moment are suede and pony skin. These two materials have the most incredible textures and I have been dying to wear them together for this party season. I have to say, I was completely taken by surprise to find two incredible pieces at Ted Baker. I always had an image of Ted Baker as a go to label for party dresses, tailoring and digital prints (which are designed in-house) and never thought of the brand as a place to find leather items. So I was definitely in for a surprise when I found this suede biker jacket. As a biker jacket, it is versatile by definition, but the fact that it is made of suede and blue makes this piece even more perfect . It is so easy to style for a casual relaxed look or as a statement elegant evening top. A biker top might not be a typical choice for sophisticated evening outfits, but tucking it into a figure hugging pencil skirt could transform the piece into something sensational. With this in mind, I decided to team the jacket with this pony skin pencil skirt. In an elegant wine red bordeaux, this skirt is simply divine and oh so stylish for any occasion.
Tip 4. Do find a statement clutch. Attention to detail is very important when creating the total package. Once you know what to wear, it is easy to forget about the rest of the outfit, but I think this is the most important part of styling a look. Clutches should not be viewed from a purely utilitarian perspective. It is not just something to hold your essentials, but something that completes the look and feel of the outfit. I think it’s important to have some fun when choosing clutches so I fell in love with this quirky envelope clutch which features a luxe mohican detail. I still haven’t figured out how they created the mohican made of dyed hair on springbok hide, but it is definitely a statement one of a kind it bag.
So with some of my key tips for dressing for this season, I hope you have a fantastic time getting ready for parties this month and let’s all have an incredible end to 2014!
