2013 was a whirlwind year that came and went just as I was getting acquainted with it. Each year seems to fly past with even greater furore and I can’t wait to see what awaits me in 2014. New Years is a time of special celebration spent with family and loved ones. In Japan, as Buddhist temple bells welcome the New Year at midnight, our family pack on the winter layers to make our way to our local Shinto shrine. There, we make our first prayers to the gods and throw our old amulets into the burning bonfire. As I stare into the flames rising into darkness, I’m always overwhelmed by emotion and gratefulness for all my new memories from the year past. Although this New Year was spent with my London family, there were many moments which reminded me of the Japanese New Year and I felt so peaceful as I cosied up to my love in my warm snowflake jumper surrounded by candles. Love, success, certainty – these are the three things I’m grateful for this New Year. I hope and wish the very best to all in 2014!!!!
