There is something undeniably special about finding the perfect gift for that special person in our lives, simply to say “I love you”. Valentine’s Day is one day in the year when we can tell our loved ones how much they mean to us or to our crush that they have always had a special place in our hearts. I particularly like what Valentine’s Day has come to represent in Japan. Of course, as a western celebration, the concept was initially imported into Japan as another consumer advertisement project. However, over the years, this day has become a major calendar event for people to profess their love and appreciation to their special someone. Girls are known to spend days, sometimes weeks, planning out their chocolate recipes (including how to decorate and wrap the hand made treats) and boys are known to research and plan out how they want to spend their day with their loved ones. I like to think that the effort people put into their hand made gifts and date plans are symbolic of their love.
In keeping with my Japanese customs, I have always tried to give hand made chocolates as a sign of my love on Valentine’s Day. Unfortunately, my special man in my life is not a huge fan of sweets so giving him chocolates feels more like a torture technique. That is why instead of chocolates, I try to find a gift that means something and is useful for him. I tend to chose things that he is able to wear and use regularly as I like to think that a part of me is with him throughout the day. After days of looking around, I narrowed down my choice to cufflinks from Alice Made This. In addition to the exquisite designs aesthetic, I fell deeply in love with what the brand represents. Celebrating materials, manufacturing processes and industrial craftsmanship, Alice Made This is as they call it, “Industrycraft”, or a melding of luxury design and industry. With products all made in Britain by British master craftsmen, each piece tells a story of craftsmanship and manufacturing expertise. Each and every accessory from Alice Made This is the perfect gift for my special man and a great way for him to stylishly update his everyday oufits. I hope he enjoys the story behind the cufflinks and wears them as a reminder that I love him. With my gift ready, I cannot wait for the big day to come!
